Natalya Bokovaya
Ms. Natalya Bokovaya is the Director of the Uranium and Nuclear Materials Accounting and Control Department and has a well-deserved reputation as a highly qualified expert in uranium accounting and control at all stages of its circulation.
The level of her qualifications is confirmed by the state certification and long-term participation in working groups on the application of IAEA safeguards within the framework of the agreement concluded by Kazakhstan with the IAEA on the application of safeguards.
She has extensive experience in interacting both with IAEA inspectors during their inspections, work with the US agencies, and with the state bodies of Kazakhstan on the control of uranium turnover and compliance with the requirements of Kazakhstan’s legislation on accounting and control of uranium and export control.
With her background in physics, Ph.D. in physics and mathematics, she has got more than 25 years in nuclear projects and 19 years of experience in the uranium industry.

She participated in the 2012 Regional Workshop on Best Practices and Verification of Natural Uranium Mining Facilities in the Republic of Namibia and the 2015 IAEA Consultation on Nuclear Security in Uranium Mining Facilities hosted by the IAEA and the US DOE during which took part in the development of materials for the regional Seminar on the best practices in the management of uranium concentrate, held in 2015 in Zambia.
Ms. Bokovaya repeatedly took part in working groups organized by the IAEA and the US Department of Energy, during which, based on the positive practical experience of NAC Kazatomprom JSC, issues were considered on building and improving systems for the production accounting and control of natural uranium at uranium mining enterprises in Africa and issues of ensuring the safety of uranium concentrates from the moment of production to the moment of their shipment by sea to conversion facilities.
She took part in the work within the framework of the IAEA project on the development of recommendations on nuclear security for the uranium industry, which took into account the extensive experience gained by Kazatomprom in terms of conducting work on the technological control of natural uranium. She was actively involved in the development of recommendations for ensuring nuclear safety and security in the production of uranium concentrate “Nuclear Security in the Uranium Extraction Industry”, IAEA-TDL-003, 2016.
In addition, Ms. Bokovaya has extensive experience in research and teaching in the field of nuclear physics.
