Mr. Akira Tokuhiro is a Professor, Energy and Nuclear Engineering at Ontario Tech University, in Oshawa,
Ontario, Canada. He was formerly Dean, Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science. He has 30+
years of nuclear engineering R&D experience of advanced reactor concepts, including the Small Modular
Reactor. He was a Senior Engineer at a SMR startup that finished its design and received regulatory
certification. His diverse R&D career includes Switzerland, Japan, U.S. and Canada. In the U.S. he was
Director and licensed Senior Reactor Operator at a research reactor. He holds a Ph.D. and B.S.E.,
respectively in nuclear engineering and engineering physics from Purdue University, as well as a M.S.,
mechanical engineering, from University of Rochester. Most recently, he has taught/mentored at the
World Nuclear University, Summer Institute (2022, 2023).
